This rice bin was made by Mr. Takemoto, a joiner and box maker, from paulownia wood without using nails or plastic. Paulownia is known for moisture control and insect repellency, and it keeps humidity around 60% through the seasons. When you pull the knob toward you, one cup of rice collects in the drawer, so there is no need to measure the rice. The inside of the bin is sloped so that the last grains of rice can be taken out. The drawer has a space of about 5 mm on both sides to help prevent rice from getting caught.
