These pulses are used to control the angular displacement. The angular displacement conversion in the Eltra encoder uses the principle of photoelectric scanning. The reading system is based on the rotation of a radial indexing disk (code wheel) consisting of alternating lighttransmissive window and opaque window, while being vertically illuminated by an infrared source, which projects the image of the code disk onto the surface of the receiver. The receiver is covered with a diffraction grating having the same window width as the code wheel. The job of the receiver is to experience the changes in the rotation of the disc and then to convert the changes in light into corresponding electrical changes.
