A hot topic on NHK Radio's "Classical Readings"! Famous scenes from The Tale of Genji are interpreted based on Kogetsusho. Kogetsusho is a standard introductory book for reading The Tale of Genji, written by Edo period scholar Kitamura Kigin. It continued to be widely read into the Meiji period, and was also read by Mori Ogai, Higuchi Ichiyo, and Yosano Akiko. Motoori Norinaga criticized the interpretation in Kogetsusho, but by reading it with that in mind, you can experience the old and new charm of The Tale of Genji. It consists of 6 volumes.
