The story is set in the Land of Smoke, a magical superpower that thrives thanks to the vast magical resources hidden underground. The artificial lifeforms known as "homunculus," born as a result of this development, were supposed to bring a bright future to the country. However, the foul smoke billowing from underground drives the homunculus mad, transforming it into a rampaging monster. Lilac, a tuner with the power to save the homunculus, awakens in a deep underground laboratory and encounters a homunculus deeply connected to the country's tragedy. Together with the homunculus, with whom she has made a pact, Lilac embarks on a journey across the vast Land of Smoke in search of lost memories and the whereabouts of her precious companions. This is a story of destruction and rebirth set in an apocalyptic world several decades after the disaster of the Rain of Death.
