Apparently, banks would hand these out to children as a way to educate them on saving, hoping to encourage them to become future customers. A typical Finnish story is that the bank would sometimes keep the money without giving the children a key, with the idea being that once the bank was full, the children would return to the bank. Production of the bank subsequently ceased, but the original model was discovered, and biotope requested that it be reproduced. The bottom can be opened and closed with the included key.
