◇ (Principal image of the Jodo sect) This is a metal cast Buddha made in Japan. It is sized to be enjoyed in your daily life as a principal image for your Buddhist altar, a talisman to ward off evil, or as a tasteful piece of interior decor.
■Amida Nyorai Boat-Shaped Halo (Amida Nyorai Funagata Kohai) The principal image of the Jodo and Ji sects, and the guardian deity of those born in the years of the dog and boar. Amida Nyorai, also known as Muryoju Nyorai due to his infinite lifespan, is the head of the Western Pure Land, and continues to save people with his boundless life and wisdom. He is the most popular Buddha. "Namu Amida Butsu" means "I take refuge in Amida Nyorai." He is a generous Buddha who will take anyone, no matter how bad they have done, to the Pure Land after death if they chant "Namu Amida Butsu." The act of welcoming the dead is called "raigo," and Amida Nyorai arrives from the other side of the mountains accompanied by Kannon Bodhisattva and Seishi Bodhisattva as his attendants, accompanied by lively music. He is a kind-hearted Buddha who warmly embraces and eases even the image of death that we fear.
