The 424 Gain Stage reproduces the gritty lo-fi tone achieved when connecting a guitar rig directly to the TASCAM Portastudio 424. This pedal-format model is highly regarded by modern young guitarists for its punchy clean tone, wide headroom, and aggressive fuzz, making it easy to incorporate into any system. For example, it recreates the sound of Mk.Gee! It also covers sounds from emerging artists like Steve Lacey, Malcolm Todd, D4vd, Omar Apollo, as well as Mac DeMarco, Spoon, Radiohead, and various other bedroom pop and direct-in tone styles.

To accurately reproduce the history of this equipment, we have perfectly recreated the original circuitry of the 424 Mk2, including the original UPC4570 and NJM4565 operational amplifiers, as well as all original controls. This is essential for capturing the wonderful sound and unique character of vintage equipment. The gain controls (trim, channel volume, master volume) mimic the original channel strip interaction, allowing you to fine-tune your desired tone. Additionally, the unit features adjustable bass and treble EQ settings. For maximum flexibility in live and studio environments, it is equipped with both 1/4-inch output and balanced XLR output (DI out).
